We had a great National Skilled Nursing Care Week, during which we celebrated our nurses and had the opportunity to thank them for their hard work, dedication to our patients, and the kindness they show every day. One special way we chose to celebrate our nurses was by having Shellem Cline perform here at EHCC! Shellem is a country and gospel music star who travels around the Southeast performing. It was a blast having him here and we really enjoyed listening to his music.
Sunday, May 14 to Saturday, May 20, 2023, is National Skilled Nursing Week, formerly known as National Nursing Home Week. This year’s theme is “Cultivating Kindness,” in hopes that all will continue cultivating and spreading kindness to improve lives. Since 1967, when the celebration was established by American Health Care Association, National Skilled Nursing Care Week begins on Mother’s Day every year and continues to the following Saturday.
Ray Knapp, the writer for the op-ed series, “A Refreshing Knapp” with The Erwin Record, was less than hopeful when he learned his wife would require a stay in an assisted living facility to recover from a complicated orthopedic surgery. His concern came from negative stories seen and read in news reports all over the country. In his article titled “Learning the truth about nursing homes,” we were thrilled for him to report that he found our staff to be “friendly and caring, yet professional.” He went on to say, “The nurses and the Erwin Health Care staff caring for her are more than just people; they are also friends.”
Easter Activities
The Erwin Health Care Center (EHCC) team works together to create a homey environment for residents. This is especially true when it comes to celebrating holidays.
Easter is right around the corner and the staff has several activities planned including ceramic Easter egg painting, spring arts and crafts, and an Easter egg hunt! Furthermore, local churches have agreed to send messages during Easter week. EHCC is committed to nurturing the minds, bodies, and spirits of our residents.
